Hi! I created the Commons:WikiProject Romania as a sister project to the multilingual WP:ROMANIA versions (currently en, fr, ro and ru) to better organize, categorize and improve the quality of media and galleries related to Romania and the Romanians. From your contributions, I think you might be interested and maybe you wish to join and support the project. Your input is welcomed! Thanks and best regards!

Meaning of SVG code "optimization"

You know, it's slightly annoying when all someone does is remove the metadata, and then claims that they've "optimized"[sic] an SVG file, as with File:Flag of Sudan (1956-1970).svg etc. Merely removing the metadata is not "optimizing"[sic]. AnonMoos (talk) 01:10, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Well would you rather I write "simplify" instead? Or "cleanup"? Which one would you prefer? It so happens that on this flag there wasn't much that needed to be done, but on other ones I had to rewrite the code completely to strip it down to the essentials, and as far as my abilities allowed me, "optimize" it. Maybe my understanding of this word is not quite right, but I'm not trying to—as you put it—"claim" anything and I wasn't aware this choice of word was so annoying... On "File:Flag of Sudan (1956-1970).svg" there was absolutely nothing whatsoever that needed to be done -- removing or including metadata being a choice about which information is to be contained in the file, and not a matter of "optimization "[sic]... AnonMoos (talk) 01:51, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
Okay. ABJIKLAMǁTǁC 02:18, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

I don't know that I have an objection to the word "optimize" any more than to other wordings such as "clean up" etc. -- I only object to those words when no real optimization or clean-up has actually been performed. By the way, I only left a comment here on your user talk page because I wasn't going to revert your upload (as opposed to Alkari's even more bogus "cleanup" of File:Fine Gael historical flag.svg etc., which I actually did revert). AnonMoos (talk) 22:26, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Right. But when there is actually something that needs to be done (for example, making a more exact image), such as on File:Flag of Egypt (1882-1922).svg, I guess cleanup will sound less arrogant than optimization.
Also, I would argue that when more than half the code is useless metadata, it is cleanup to remove it. ABJIKLAMǁTǁC 22:33, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
I use "simplify" to describe many of my own uploads, and I don't know that one is more arrogant-sounding than the other. The metadata can be considered "useless" from the point of view of not drawing anything visible inside the image rectangle, but from a general XML file perspective, it provides some extremely basic Dublin Core Metadata information (which could be further expanded, as can be seen if you view the source of File:Earth_Flag.svg or many other files). AnonMoos (talk) 23:00, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
You're right, not all metadata is useless and you mentioned a very good (and funny!) example of useful, if not necessary, metadata. But I was talking about the enormous amount of data that Inkscape adds to the files which, in my opinion, is for the most part not only useless but also annoying to work with when making changes to the image. In any case, I'll just use cleanup from now on. ABJIKLAMǁTǁC 23:14, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

East India Company flags

Hello. While browsing the English Wikipedia I noticed that the horizontal stripes on the two new versions of the EIC flags you uploaded [1] [2] look distorted and uneven when the images are sized between between 23 and 100px. Can this be fixed? BarretBonden (talk) 10:02, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Hmm.. do you know if that was a problem before my upload? It seems not to be an issue if the template {{flagicon image}} is used (see en:Battle of Pollilur (1781). ABJIKLAMǁTǁC 20:25, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
I can't be certain that it was your new upload that caused it but it's certainly a recent issue. There were no issues with the flag in en:Battle of Assaye when I last checked it a few weeks ago and the only thing that's changed since then as far as I know is the new upload. It's not ideal to go through every article containing the flags to see if the flagicon template is needed - especially on non-English Wikipedias. Perhaps reverting to the older version would determine if the new upload is the problem. BarretBonden (talk) 10:07, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Map of constituencies

Hi. Thanks for the new map of constituencies for French residents overseas. Just one thing: Could you change the colour of either the Central & South American constituency, or that of Central and Eastern Europe, to distinguish them more clearly? Aridd (talk) 16:18, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

✓ Done. Hopefully the new colour is clearer. Let me know if it is not adequate. ABJIKLAMǁTǁC 23:55, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

PUNS flag

Hello. I viewed your PUNS flag file, wich is like the one portrayed here. Althought, I notice today this photo taken during the UN visiting mission to then Spanish Sahara in 1975, in wich protesters wave a slightly different version of the PUNS flag. As you can see, the red crescent is lowered and a red star is added, much like in the Mauritanian flag. Could you make the appropiate changes to the file, please?. ✓ Done. Regards, ABJIKLAMǁTǁC 21:24, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
