WANI is the abbreviation of Western Australian Nautical Initiatives [1], which was formed to encourage greater involvment in outdoor/nautical activities throughout Western Australia. The initiatives which built the foundation of WANI are programs developed for primary and pre-primary students to be introduced to sailing and all of the associated skills.

The initiatives were initially focused towards government primary schools. Aimed towards building pathways for young students who may not have otherwise been provided the opportunity

Since 2017, positive word of mouth and publicity has spread. This prompted the creation of even more initiatives. Programs which introduce pre-primary school students to boats, which are brought to them on their school campus. This provides practical understanding for their Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) curriculum.
