One of the main tasks I perform on Commons is deletion. It is a time-consuming science, but it is essential to the continued operations Commons.

Types

[edit]

I usually delete copyright violations and files against our policies, as well as files with an incorrect name. I also frequent the "Unknown" category for files missing source or license info.

Philosophy

[edit]

I am considered one of the stricter admins when it comes to deletions. I consider it the responsibility of the uploader to ensure that a file complies with Commons policies, and the responsibility of the projects that use a file to unlink a file when it is deleted. If my deletions disrupt your project, I apologize, but ask for your understanding. I encourage projects to use CommonsTicker to stay informed of changes to files they use.

Undeletion

[edit]

If you think I wrongfully deleted a file, you can contact me on my talk page, and describe the situation. Please provide enough evidence to justify that you are correct in your reasoning. Please also read the information at Commons:Undeletion requests, but I would ask you to make your request on my talk page, where I am more readily notified of it.

File retrieval

[edit]

If you think a deleted file could be used in a fair use project (such as en.wikipedia or en.wikinews), it can be temporarily restored to allow transfer. You can contact me on my talk page for such a request, but please also read Commons:Undeletion requests first.
