Deputy General Counsel, Wikimedia Foundation

About me

I began working for the Wikimedia Foundation in January 2018. Prior to joining the Foundation, I served as General Counsel for Software Freedom Conservancy, a public charity that acts as the home for over forty free and open source software projects, including Git, Selenium, and Samba. Prior to joining Conservancy, I spent time in the private sector as an attorney in private practice and as an intellectual property licensing and business development professional with IBM.

I am an MIT (BS, mechanical engineering) and University of Michigan (JD/MBA) alumnus. I am a member of the New York bar and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. I am also on the leadership committee for the Outreachy initiative, which provides paid remote internships with free and open source and free culture organizations (like the Wikimedia Foundation) to people who are underrepresented in technology. I made my first Wikipedia edit in 2006; it related to the entry on Parliament's 1975 album, "Chocolate City". I noted that the founders of my undergraduate living group had named our living group after the album. In my spare time, I enjoy music production and rooting for Washington, DC-area sports teams.

My work

I manage the day-to-day operations of the Foundation's legal department, and advise and provide counsel to the Foundation on a variety of matters.
