A model may appear only once, in the year of its introduction; if, for example, the Nakamichi 1000 was produced from 1973 to 1977, it will only appear in 1973. Coexistence of different makers' models within any given year - where they are listed side-by-side alphabetically - does not imply any comparison or equality. It means that these particular models topped their maker's catalogues, and nothing else. It should be no surprise that most entries on the list are concentrated in the first half of the 1980s - the "silver age" of hi-fi industry and the peak of Compact Cassette technology.
