Wikidata attributes

This is a list of the parameters of the template and where information should be put in Wikidata to appear in the template.

  • Artist: "creator" (P170). Will detect whether a "Creator:" page exists and automatically make use of it if applicable; else, displays the name as plaintext.
  • Title: "Title" (P1476), fallback on "Label" of the object in the current language. Will also feature a Wikidata icon with a linkback to the wikidata item. Will detect in a Wikipedia page exists and automatically link to it. Parameter "subtitle" (P1680) can also be used.
  • Description: Will use the Wikidata Description field of the Q-item
  • Date: this generates three lines (we could do more sophisticated but this is a prototype)
    • Takes "Inception" (P571) for the main date. Optionnally, it is possible to use the qualifier "Circa" by setting "Sourcing circumstances" (P1480) to "circa" (Q5727902) as qualifier.
    • takes "earliest date" (P1319) and "latest date" (P1326) as optional qualifiers to P571
    • will also display the era if "time period" (P2348) is set.

Possible values for the dates (P571, P1319 and P1326) are in German dotted ordinal number format, e.g.: "18. century", "1. millennium", "2. century BCE". Year numbers as usual, for instance "666", "42 BCE" or "-42", or "2000s". "Time Period" will take Q-items as argument, such as "Ming Dynasty", "New Kingdom of Egypt", etc.

  • Medium: "material used" (P186)
  • Dimensions: will take information from
    • length (P2043)
    • thickness (P2610)
    • width (P2049)
    • height (P2048)
    • diameter (P2386)
    • mass (P2067)
    • scale (P1752)
  • Current location: will display information from "collection" (P195) and "location" (P276).
    • "collection" will automatically detect whether an "institution" page exists for the collection and use it if available
    • "location" can point to specific sections, rooms or display case inside a museum, if available.
  • Accession number: "inventory number" (P217)
  • Place of creation: "made in" (P1071)
  • Object history: works in a two-stage manner:
    • if at least one of the three fields "discoverer or inventor" (P61), "location of discovery" (P189) and "time of discovery" (P575) is set, this information will be fed into Template:ProvenanceEvent with "discovery" given as value for the "type" parameter
    • absent this, the qualifiers of "collection" (P195) will be taken into account. The template recognises "start time" (P580), "has cause" (P828) and "donated by" (P1028).
      • "start time" (P580) takes a date
      • "has cause" (P828) takes a link to Q-items such as "gift", "purchasing", "discovery", "bequest"
      • "donated by" (P1028) takes a link to Q-items describing the donator, seller, inventor etc.
  • References: will display links explicitly provided with "described at URL" (P973), or implicitly through catalogue numbers of known collections. Several references of any type can be given.
    • "described at URL" (P973) will take any URL and display it. If "title" (P1476) is set as a qualifier for "described at URL", the link will display this.
    • identification numbers of known catalogue database will yield a link to it using the templates available on Commons (further catalogues can be added to the module if needed). Currently supported are
  • Image: image (P18) will display on the right half of the template in the Category (not in images).
