My name is Brendan J. Mruk and I am teacher and artist working in the greater Boston area. In the past four years here I have witnessed my work taking on a more expressive and bold look. This change certainly can be attributed to the urban landscape that surrounds me and the rise in popularity of urban art.

Having earned a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Hartford under the tutelage of Fred Wessel, my work spoke to that of the old renaissance masters. This style allowed my skills to be seen, but I found it lacked my vision and voice. My work needed to more about my beliefs and less about beauty.

Recently I have found a way to balance my love of pop culture and social and political awareness. Combining my knowledge of printmaking techniques with so-called street techniques I have been able to create imagery that speaks in a much stronger way then my older work. This new body of work is exciting to look at and a leap forward for me as an artist, but my work has not yet finished it’s metamorphis.

In the coming years I envision my new-found voice to grow. With that my message can deepen and will hopefully allow my work to create positive change for my community and society in general.
