My favorite image of the National Agricultural Library, from the year it opened - 1969.

Wikipedian in Residence, United States National Agricultural Library

NAL holds the U.S. Forest Service's collection of Smoky Bear memorabilia. This is one of my favorite pieces.

About me:

[edit]

I've been a Wikipedian for six years, focusing my editing on agriculture, plants, science, women, and art. My interests are far reaching, but focus mostly on information access, sharing agricultural information with the general public and encouraging active participation and knowledge of the food system we are apart of - buying and eating food makes you apart of that system! I'm also interested in bridging knowledge gaps, historical research (historical images especially), and writing/sharing/expanding information about women, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals.

I studied at Auburn University (War Eagle!) in Rural sociology (and have my bachelor's from Eastern Illinois University in Sociology), and I am currently working on my Master's in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.. I worked with orange farmers (Satsumas - citrus unshiu) in Southern Alabama where I mapped the history of Satsumas coming to the United States and their eventual Westward spread; while also studying the business structure/effects of the use 2nd and 3rd party logistics providers. I've also worked with community gardening projects, outreach support for minority farmers, and other extension/farmer outreach.

About the National Agricultural Library and my role:

[edit]

The United States National Agricultural Library is one of the largest agricultural research libraries in the world, and is located in Beltsville, Maryland. The NAL facilitates the creation of agricultural knowledge through the acquisition, curation, and dissemination of the information needed to assist not only scientists, but the general public. I work to support this mission by helping to organize and make the holdings of the NAL more accessible to the public by making them available to Wikipedia for use in creating and editing articles. When I edit Wikipedia as part of my duties, I strictly abide by Wikipedia's accepted practices on conflicts of interest, neutrality, and notability.

Disclaimer: I work for the National Agricultural Library, and this is the account I use for edits and statements I make in that role.
