This work was created by Walter Mittelholzer (1894-1937). Mittelholzer's work is in the public domain in its home country, Switzerland, since 1988. Switzerland had a copyright term of 50 years p.m.a. until 1993, and the extension to 70 years p.m.a. made in 1993 did not restore already expired copyrights. As Mittelholzer's work therefore was in the public domain in its home country (Switzerland) on the URAA date (January 1, 1996), it is in the public domain in the United States as well, if first published outside the United States (and not published in the U.S. within 30 days) and first published before 1978 without complying with U.S. copyright formalities or after 1978 without copyright notice. However, the copyright status of this specific work in the United States is unclear as it is not known whether it was first published before 1978. Furthermore, the U.S. copyright status of non-U.S. works created before 1978 but first published between 1978-2002 has not yet been clarified on Commons.
