Sergey N. Shevtsov (Cyrillic script: Сергеи Н. Шевтсов) also known as XIE is a Russian bloke interested in Chinese coin charms, Chinese coin amulets, and Chinese coin talismans. He worked closely together with John Ferguson to help identify many Chinese numismatic charm characters on John Ferguson's Sportstune.com. On Vladimir Belyaev’s Zeno Oriental Coins Database (Zeno.ru) he’s one of the most active participants and is one of the biggest contributors to the Asian numismatic charms categories. As he’s proven to be so valuable to the coverage of Chinese numismatic charms on the European language internet I thought 💭 that it would be a good idea to request him to join the effort on Wikimedia Commons as well.

"Dear Mr. Shevtsov,

I am a volunteer contributor to Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia, I mostly write about cash coins but I’ve also written about Chinese charms and amulets which you can find here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_numismatic_charm

Current version:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chinese_numismatic_charm&oldid=853991209

And although I’ve been able to import all information on time on the internet there aren’t enough images of Chinese charms and amulets to illustrate all the themes and types properly, I know that you helped John Ferguson with his website (www.sportstune.com) and was wondering if you could contribute your knowledge and images of Chinese charms and amulets from your own collection? I want to be able to give new collectors plenty of basic information and illustrations but I will need your help to do so.

Yours faithfully,
Trung Quoc Don

RE. Chinese charms on Wikipedia (08 D. 08 M. 2018 A.)

"Dear Sergey,

Bert Lijnema told me about your upcoming book, I hope that the Muscovite publishers will not let you down.

As you got your images from so many sources I can’t upload them to Wikimedia Commons as only two types of files are allowed, files which you yourself own the copyright to (such as files you made yourself) and files that are free to use (e.g. Are in the public domain, the publisher/author has permitted commercial use, Etc.) this is why I don’t think Wikimedia Commons will supersede Zeno.ru anytime soon, but having a reasonable amount of images would be great. On the Mandarin Chinese Wikipedia a several new articles on Chinese charms are already being written as we speak, too bad that there’s not enough images.

With best regards,
Don
