On December 15th, 2018 an image I uploaded (illustrated on the right) made the front page / main page of the English-language Wikipedia, the image was related to the expansion of the "w:en:Gongsun Shu" article followed by the creation of the "w:en:Chengjia" by "User:Zanhe" who then nominated these articles for a "Did you know?" of the English-language Wikipedia.
This notably wasn't the first time that an image from Scott Semans' CoinCoin.com (Scott Semans World Coins) website got to the front page / main page of a Wikipedia as the Mandarin Chinese-language Wikipedia during the same year.

On December 15th (fifteenth), 2018 an image of an iron Wu Zhu (五銖) cash coin I uploaded to Wikimedia Commons found its way to the front page / main page of the English Wikipedia.

Usage of the image
[edit]-
On November 2nd (second), 2018 the file "Wu Zhu (五銖) - Gongsun Shu, Sichuan Rebel, Iron coin - Scott Semans 01.jpg" was only used at a handful of pages, the "original pages" and the nomination page.
-
After the initial phase the image started being used on various "preparation pages".
-
On the day that Scott Semans' image appeared on the front page / main page 📃 of the English-language Wikipedia usage figures exploded.
-
In fact it kept being used and used.
-
It was used so much that its usage numbers got its own page 📃.
-
And the numbers kept rising, and rising, and rising, and rising.
-
It's quite interesting to see how often the "Did you know?" Template is being used.
-
However after the file 📁 was no longer the current "Did you know?" It was no longer used in large numbers.
It's actually quite interesting how the usage data of the file "Wu Zhu (五銖) - Gongsun Shu, Sichuan Rebel, Iron coin - Scott Semans 01.jpg" went through the entire process, in fact it was simply by looking at this image's usage data that I even "discovered" that "User:Zanhe" had nominated this file 📁 for a "Did you know?" much like I had earlier experienced with another file 📁 donated by Scott Semans on the Mandarin-Chinese-language Wikipedia. After the image started being used as the current “Did you know?” image it suddenly started appearing everywhere and had an extremely high usage count, however after its “5 (five) minutes of fame” or “5 (five) minutes in the spotlights” was/were over the image had usage statistics similar to how it was prior only being noted in a couple of archives here and there.
How the nomination and "Did you know?" process went
[edit]-
The "Did you know?" nomination on November 1st (first), 2018.
-
After the nomination had been approved the image got placed into "a preparation area" where possible future 🔮 versions of the English-language Wikipedia's main page are put together.

-
When the image finally did end up on the English-language version of Wikipedia's front page 📃. / main page 📃 it was automatically protected on Wikimedia Commons in order to prevent vandalism.
-
This protection level was set to "Administrators only", at the time being slightly more than 220 (two-hundred-twenty) users on the website.
-
After it was over the "Did you know?" Was "archived" and the image kept being used there.
-
Including in "specialised archives".
The nomination was started by "w:en:User:Zanhe" after the creation of the "w:en:Chengjia" article by this person. After this the nomination was approved and then the image started being used on other pages in preparation for the "Did you know?". When image finally did make it to the front page 📃 / main page 📃 its usage statistics skyrocketed, however after this the file 📁 was mostly only retained in “archival versions” of that page 📃 on that day.
Bloopers
[edit]-
I accidentally named the screenshots I took of the English-language Wikipedia's front page 📃 / main page 📃 as "Decrmber" instead of "December".
Not the smartest of moves... On my part...
