The International Museum Day 2023 Photo Competition is a photo contest organized by Wikimedia CH which aims to select and award the best pictures representing the new definition for museums that was developed over the past five years and approved in 2022 which recognises the importance of inclusivity, community participation and sustainability.
The contest will focus on "Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing", highlighting the role of museums as contributors to the wellbeing and to the sustainable development of communities.

Competition rules
We try to keep the competition as simple as possible. There are only a few rules, let's see them quickly.
Each picture should be:
- Taken and uploaded personally;
- Uploaded during the competition period (4 - 18 May 2023);
- Releases with a license CC BY-SA licence;
- Represents a theme that does not violate personal privacy or copyright (please take into account also the rules of the museum)
Beyond that, there are some rules of thumb:
- You should have an activated email address on Wikimedia Commons;
- If the photograph is deleted for any reason, it is automatically disqualified from the competition;
- You are responsible for complying with the law and the rules of the Museum when taking and uploading the photograph.
'Pay attention to the categories!'
The guided upload process will automatically place your images in the overall contest category, but please, il possible, add more specific and appropriate categories to your photos. This will keep Wikimedia Commons in order and your images will be found more easily. Thanks in advance!
Jury Criteria
The jury will determine the winners of the competition taking into consideration the following criteria (in no particular order):
- Technical quality (sharpness, use of light, perspective, etc.);
- Originality;
- Coherence with the goals of the contest
- Image utility for Wikipedia.
Images that reach first place in the final evaluation stage typically meet at least the technical criteria of the "Featured Image" process on Wikimedia Commons. But feel free to submit lots of pictures and let the jury worry if they're good enough.
The jury
Our jury will process the images through May and June 2023. At the end of this process, a jury made up of expert photographers and Wikipedians will determine the 3 winners.
