Problem - Solution - Workaround with Slideshow

[edit]

Hi, for me this template (and a lot of others) causes a problem when used inside {{Information}} in the context of the slideshow. Using the mw Slideshow (activated by default) the left column shows the content of the {{Information}}-template description of the images and, if present, the rather lengthy output of this template. To see the useful list of categories, you have to scroll down.

There is a solution to avoid this: Forbid the usage of this template (and similar) inside {{Information}}. Move existing usages out of the {{Information}} part using a bot.

There is a simple workaround: Mark the template with a special css-class to allow filter it away by user css. I'm using class="wm-credits" already for that purpose. In e.g. {{Supported by Wikimedia Deutschland}} [1]. It would be rather welcomed, if you can add the same class also here.

My css rule is selective only for the slideshow:

.gs-img-description .wm-credits {display:none}

I herewith would like to propose this as a standard for this kind of credit templates. Hide the noisy redundant information to see what really matters. --Herzi Pinki (talk) 09:59, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's better to fix Slideshow, than to impose restrictions. By the way we tried to use Slideshow in 2013 for rating the WLE images and it proved extremely buggy for large galleries - it was hanging, showing pictures in unspecified order etc. --Ilya (talk) 10:57, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The noisy redundant information is there for a reason. --Ailura (talk) 13:04, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ailura, it would be better to have this reasonable information outside of Information box. Inside it spoils the slideshow, sorry to say that, with noisy information. --Herzi Pinki (talk) 22:10, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

To make it clear, I added an example screenshot. The screenshot was done with maximum zoom that allows my old eyes to read. My normal zoom just shows me the first two logos. The information about categories set is still below the viewport. --Herzi Pinki (talk) 22:51, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As i already said, i agree that this is not a good position for the Template. But i still would rather repair the mistake in the pictures (but inform the authors before) than change the Template or the CSS. This problem hits a handful of users and you and i know most of them in person. --Ailura (talk) 09:42, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Secondary category for Sweden

[edit]

{{Edit protected}} Please add [[Category:Content made available through Wikimedia Sverige competitions|{{PAGENAME}}]] to the end of the line starting |se=. See example edit made in Template:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013. This is to allow the chapter to track images across competitions. /André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 14:20, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
