Examples:

Usage and syntax seem to differ from the examples on en:template:SUL Box.

I don't understand the difference sorry, the only difference is about the link which is given when you put no parameters. {{User SUL}} give a link for commons.

New Hebrew subtemplate

Hi. Just created a new subtemplate for he. Seems to work fine in most ways–language, user-gender, and project all change correctly. However, there are a couple of things not working right, for which I'd like some help:

1. When language parameter (|1=) is missing, template is defaulting to en, not he.
2. I can't get the text to wrap fully from right to left, so the language identifier (which is ltr) always separates from the project name (which is rtl).
3. The example text didn't say where in the string of project names to put "Wikidata", so I don't know where to put it. Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:39, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

1. It’s normal. Imagine that the English and the Hebrew version won’t contain the same information.
2. I don’t understand what’s the problem. Is it still wrong?
3. Because it doesn’t handle it yet. I will try to rewrite it and add Wikidata. If you write there the translation, I will put it in. @Tacsipacsi:

1. I'm not sure what you meant above. In the version I thought I was creating, I thought I entered "he" as the default language parameter (i.e., {{{1|he}}}). So then I was surprised that it defaulted to English in the absence of a parameter. However, the template worked fine if I explicitly called the template with 1=he. Maybe in this revised version the whole problem is moot.
2. Until there are Hebrew project names in the template, I won't know. The problem looks something like this: it shows up as
   ‏החשבון הראשי הוא
   בויקיפדיה (en)
   when it should appear more like
   החשבון הראשי הוא
   (en) בויקיפדיה
   with the "(en)" [or "(he)" or whatever] appearing after the rest of the text rather than in the middle of the text, if you assume that the whole text block in the box is rtl. (Please note that I juggled the code around here so I could make the problem look right, but what I did here isn't really an answer to the problem.)
3. Do you want me to re-enter the Hebrew names of the projects on the translation page of Template:User SUL/i18n/he, or here? (If you don't answer during the business day today US East Coast time, I will be offline over the weekend until Tuesday.)

One other question: will multilingual templates like this eventually be ported to other multilingual wikis like Meta and Wikidata? StevenJ81 (talk) 15:17, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Actually, you can see the problem I am trying to illustrate in #2 by going to my user page (User:StevenJ81) and then changing your language to Hebrew (עברית). As things currently stand, both the project name and the language identifier are in the wrong spot, because the project name as well as the language identifier are in a ltr language. @StevenJ81:

1. If you didn’t add any parameter, {{User SUL}} added “en” (in this version). If you added a blank parameter (or both case now), {{User SUL/layout}} added “en”. It would be very confusing if some interface languages didn’t add the same information: if you see the page with English interface, you see that the home wiki is en.wikipedia, but with Hebrew interface, you see he.wikipedia. It usually doesn’t happen that a user has multiple home wikis (if so, use {{LangSwitch}} in parameter).
2. I don’t see yet how to resolve the problem. I can probably see more if:

@Tacsipacsi: Thanks very much. The language identifier is in the right place now. I will add Wikidata and Wikivoyage shortly. And I updated the documentation here to include that this template exists on hewiki.
I hope you don't mind, though, that I have a couple of additional questions/comments:

• As the template currently exists, language (|1=) is only optional if project (|2=) is a non-language-specific project, like Commons, Meta, or Wikidata. If you pick something like "Wikipedia" and leave out |1=, you get something like this: Wikipedia () You don't get a default language there. That's not the way this template works in most projects. If it is going to work that way here in the long run, the documentation needs to show that.
• What I meant about the porting question was: Will this template, with its multilingual versions and infrastructure, eventually be ported to projects like Meta and Wikidata? StevenJ81 (talk) 19:08, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

• Fixed.
