Is this template still needed?

[edit]

Good day colleagues

Does this template still need to be invoked and when it is invoked, is it appropriately done?

At Template:No source since/doc for example it is invoked with the text header “Parameter text is empty” (which I’m struggling to find where that is even inserted and at what point) despite there being TemplateData below it with parameter text. I see its purpose maybe a few years back when TemplateData was fresh off the press. But quite frankly this ‘warning’ or ‘info’ template makes almost no sense to me, is full of instruction creep and, IMO, actually serves no purpose currently as it doesn’t header itself with its clear purpose. It doesn’t explain itself clearly. And at the end of reading the template you’re left boggled what message is it even trying to convey?

I attempted for 1 hour to find out what the story is behind its creation but I’m still baffled.

Could someone clarify/help/explain? As I don’t think it’s necessary anymore.

(I believe it’s creators or those around during its creation may be able to help who were involved in RfC Commons:Requests for comment/How Commons should deal with TemplateData. @Rillke, MarkTraceur, Jdforrester (WMF), Jean-Frédéric, Romaine, Tuvalkin, Hym411, Hyacinth, Ricordisamoa, Zolo, Jarekt, Orchi, Dan-nl, Willscrlt, and Mardus: ).

Thank you for your consideration/help. Waddie96 (talk) 10:17, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It was so long ago that I worked on this that I don't have a clue what it was about. I was active in a lot of Template work, and it i18n would seem to indicate to me that this was somehow related to languages and translation, especially since it's primary use seems to be on Commons, which is very international/multilingual. More than that, I cannot tell you. It seems that Lua took over so much of the old template functionality, that I stopped working on template design and then largely dropped of the Wikis. Sorry.
