Proposal for changing parent categories

[edit]

@Prototyperspective: Instead of Category:Charts as a parent, I'd rather have a new category Category:Charts by year and so group them together in one subcategory of Category:Charts. That would make this main category a lot clearer and less crowded. This new category can have Category:Charts by data periods, which is now (red) in the subcategories. (And please create this new category then as well.) Can you please make these changes in this template? JopkeB (talk) 09:36, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Something like that is planned so if you don't want to create it, I'll create it. The issues are that:
  • Most charts still miss the categories for the timespans and I can't add them to all/most of them so if no bot can do this more people would need to get involved; those may looks at the Charts cat but not the subcats
  • I didn't knew if "Charts by data periods" is a good title
  • More importantly, "Charts by year" is problematic because eventually there could also be a cat for years that statistics in charts begin like "Charts showing data beginning 2021"
I'll make the changes somehow anyway. Prototyperspective (talk) 13:14, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.
  • Would it be possible to change the parent category just for the ones with "Charts showing data through ...." in the title? Then "my" problem would be solved already.
  • I do not know either whether "Charts by data periods" is a good title. I guessed the person who added it, would know.

Done. Any help regarding populating those cats with high-quality/reliable/relevant/likely-useful/… charts is appreciated. A main issue this could address is that outdated old charts show up at the top of search results (as well as in category pages). Prototyperspective (talk) 12:30, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Good work. JopkeB (talk) 05:08, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
