Documentation and other improvements

[edit]

@Cryptic-waveform: Thank you for taking the trouble to look into this (yet rudimentary und undocumented) templateǃ To give a little background as to its purpose and historyː
It is based on a similar one (Template:Welter) which I created in another numismatic context for which there also exists an accepted standard reference catalogue, and which I feel has proven worthwhile (1) to display in "natural" sequence, i.e. by catalogue number, year and possibly obverse/reverse, those hundreds of coin images in that numismatic field that have been uploaded from many different sources with largely arbitrary naming conventions, and (2) to group them all together in a unified, dedicated, though hidden, category.
The same applies here, and as to (1) the catalogue/year-related sort sequence is deliberately meant not only to hold within that overall category (2), but also as a default within any other applicable categories, e.g. by ruling prince/monarch, denomination etc. That's why I have used Defaultsort rather than category-specific sort sequence in the first place, and I beg your pardon for having restored this now; in case it is undesirable somewhere, then applying a different, category-specific sort sequence there would always overrule Defaultsort.
Frankly, I had intended to first tag "most" applicable images this way so the effect becomes visible and worthwhile, before creating a description/documentation for others to use, and I am not even halfway through with the former; but I'll be happy to profit from your expertise for improvements all along. (E.g. the link might go to either the English or German SCBC article, depending on the reader's language preference setting.) Thanks, HReuter (talk) 23:30, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
