Can the template be adjusted to handle categories as well as, or as an alternative to, galleries? Some people have only Commons categories and no galleries. For example, Category:Lady Grace Drummond-Hay, see

File:Bundesarchiv Bild 102-06551, Friedrichshafen, Journalisten vor Zeppelin-Start.jpg

Also, will there be a defined syntax for ages which are not certain, such as "56 to 58"? 84user (talk) 23:20, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to keep it plain and simple and stick to a single reference system for persons, the gallery pages. Every person who is worth a category of its own, is also worth a gallery of its own. A simple method to create the gallery without having to invest much time is redirecting it to the category. That's useful anyway for easy access to the content.
We can create a sub-template for values like "56 to 58" similar to the template {{Other date}}, if that's necessary. --Slomox (talk) 01:07, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata

[edit]

The template should support tagging and i18n through Wikidata and user should be encouraged to take that as the preferred usage way and in the long run existing tags should be replaced by Wikidata. Cool if somebody can start to extend the template, perhaps I'll find the time somewhen. --Marsupium (talk) 07:33, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just bopped in here for the same reason. I second the need for Wikidata linking in this template. Sweet kate (talk) 19:56, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
One can use Template:Label. --Marsupium (talk) 09:25, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Consider Template:Depicted person. It pulls from Wikidata. For example: {{Depicted person|Q58816418}} Depicted person: James Charles – American YouTuber, make-up artist and model The functionality is different from {{Person in image}}, but perhaps the code can be combined in some useful manner.
