See Template_talk:Information#Combination_with_Template:Festival Japan Matsuri 2010 (and_Festival_Template) -- User:Docu at 16:13, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest to redirect this template to {{Temporary Exhibition}}, see Category:Multilingual tags: Events (okay the name does not match very well, but we can keep both names if needed). It is more flexible, makes internationalization more straightforward through the use of built-in {{City}} and {{ISOdate}} and fits more neatly into {{Information}} (or better IMO into {{Photograph}}). The "depicted person" needs to be moved out of the template, but I think it makes sense, handling depicted people and depicted event separately should result in a more maintainable database-like structure. --Zolo (talk) 09:38, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I did create this template. The main problem is that they do not exactly cover the same usages. Okay we use both of those template to describe events...
Festival was created for a few purposes: a basic description including some information: edition; date, a more precise description, some coordinates, some category to put the image in.
The depicted people was an experiment, but people are not feeding it anyway, so it's just useless.
like Temporary Exhibition, the template in itself should not be called directly on medias, but rather by a custom template dedicated to the event.
now the main issue: those templates does not have the same functionnalities: Temporary Exhibition is more data oriented, at the expanse of losing maneer in translation.
The information displayed is also basic and not very customizable.

Yes there is a trade-off between elegance and automatization of translation. But I do not think it would give something horrible. For Template:Bulles en Seyne, it would be:
Photograph taken at: Bulles en Seyne, 1st edition, La Seyne-sur-Mer, France, 20 June 2009–21 June 2009
"1st edition" could easily be internationalized using another template, and it would be trivial to create a multilingual tag for La Seyne-sur-Mer. So it means dozens of easy translation instead of a few manually added ones. Given that the ratio active users / number of files is bound to decrease, I think it is woth it. --Zolo (talk) 18:25, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Back from long week-end...
I see two issues:
  1. The two templates we are talking of are not iso functionnal and I doubt they'll ever be iso functionnal.
  2. This is not properly translated. temporary exhibition outputs raw tabular data merged altogether. One could say it's the same for festival template, but at least they are formatted like the other tabular data of commons.
