Lua version

I think the Lua version is ready, see Module talk:Era/testcases. It does the same thing as the template, except that when the era is not recognized, it returns date .. eraname .. category:Incorrect usage of Template:Era rather than just date, and when the date is empty it returns nil rather than the era name "|date=1922|era=BC)" returns nil rather than "BC". It may be better if want to put the template in some field where we do not know if there will really be a date provided. --Zolo (talk) 14:41, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

It looks fine. I would just deploy it and adjust the documentation. I started working on function p.ISOdate_extended in Module:Date/sandbox, which would be able o handle date formats beyond the ISO format, dates with era and handle simple cases of {{Other date}}. Feel free to expand that function to handle eras, as long as you preserve current capabilities. --Jarekt (talk) 15:21, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

I will have a look at ISOdate. Actually, I just saw that the error handling in Module:Era is not compatible with the current {{Other date}} (the template sends parameter 3 as an era name, which is problematic for cases like {{other date|-|1900|1902}}). I could just disable error checking in the module, but it sounds better to rewrite {{Other date}} in Lua instead. --Zolo (talk) 13:22, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
