broken documentation

[edit]

@Sarang: , I noticed you added documentation to this template, which seems to be broken. Other "Template:Created with ..." templates in Category:Pages with script errors seem to have the same issue. --Jarekt (talk) 04:27, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @Jarekt: this Lua error "too many expensive function calls" results from the template {{ Lang linksTemplate:Created with ... }}
As you can see, the Template:{{Lang links/doc}} itself shows this error  !
It should display

العربية  Boarisch  беларуская  беларуская (тарашкевіца)  বাংলা  català  нохчийн  čeština  dansk  Deutsch  Österreichisches Deutsch  Schweizer Hochdeutsch  Deutsch (Sie-Form)  Ελληνικά  English  Canadian English  British English  Esperanto  español  eesti  euskara  فارسی  suomi  français  galego  עברית  हिन्दी  hrvatski  hornjoserbsce  magyar  հայերեն  Bahasa Indonesia  italiano  日本語  қазақша  ភាសាខ្មែរ  한국어  lietuvių  македонски  മലയാളം  norsk bokmål  Plattdüütsch  Nederlands  norsk nynorsk  norsk  occitan  polski  português  português do Brasil  română  русский  slovenčina  slovenščina  svenska  ไทย  Türkçe  українська  Tiếng Việt  中文  中文(中国大陆)  中文(简体)  中文(繁體)  中文(臺灣)  +/−

Now it is removed, I am looking for another possibility to show the ~ 62 localizations -- sarang사랑 09:15, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The problem

It is not supportet to use a documentation for a great number of similar templates.
There are > 80 SVG created with ... templates and > 100 Created with ... templates, with only very small differences.
To avoid the need to have > 180 times the almost same documentation I tried to create a modifyable doc-template;

  • advantage: it is not necessary always to maintain > 180 documentations -, there is only one.
  • disadvantage: it gives many troubles, and needs complicated programming.

One of these is that original template documentation does not support conditional structures; another one is that the localizations are not generated automatically.
I have not yet an idea why suddenly that Lua error occurred, after years of well doing. -- sarang사랑 11:36, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Sarang: , At some point I rewrote Template:GeoName/doc to serve as documentation for templates like {{Paris}}, etc. Maybe there are parts of it you could borrow. I think it is a good idea, although I would have separate page for SVG created with ... templates and different one for Created with ... templates. If Template:Lang links/doc is broken, is it needed by this page? --Jarekt (talk) 01:41, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
