Superlocation

[edit]

I propose to remove the category Category:Images from the German Federal Archive unknown location if a superlocation is given. E.g. for Category:Images from the German Federal Archive, location Radefeld, Radefeld is a small part of Scheuditz without an own category. Adding the category to Category:Images from the German Federal Archive, location Schkeuditz is sufficient specific. This holds for many of the VEBs and LPGs, too, as many of them have no further relevance. – Felix Reimann (talk) 17:21, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A proposed navigation timeline may be found in the following example:

  • click 1880s from the first row of the timeline below:

{{BArch timeline|1895|nocat=y}}

The template jumps to the inserted section name Timeline in order to save the user the step of repetitiously scrolling past the multilingual header info. In this way, rapid navigation through the temporally tagged content is possible.

I could paste Template:BArch timeline into every year. But....

I instead propose a slight change to this template, adding the following line after

{{CatAZ}}

new line:

{{#if:{{{year|}}}|{{BArch timeline|{{{year}}}}}}}

I like it, but for some reason I cannot fathom 1879 does not show it. 84user (talk) 19:11, 11 January 2009 (UTC) Actually, several years before 1880 do not work. In the meantime I am making a few null edits that mysteriously cause the timeline to appear, but my edits do not appear in the history. Cache reasons? 84user (talk) 19:23, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Null edits never appear in the history, but the page is still rerendered. When templates are edited, the software creates an entry in the job queue to update all pages using the template (cause updating them immediately could melt the servers for heavily used templates). The entries in the job queue are processed time by time. At the moment the job queue has a length of 973,392 (Special:Statistics). That means, 973,392 pages need to be updated, before all instances of this template are updated. Will take some time, but it will be done. --Slomox (talk) 20:28, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

BArch -> Bundesarchiv
