This template is to be used on images that make use of elements from other images available on Commons.

It provides an easy way to attribute the author of work requiring such attribution.

In future it can allow for tracking of how free images are being used and derived from.

The template automatically sets the following categories: Category:Derivative works

Usage

Template parameters

1	name of the image where elements are taken from   (may be with the namespace)		empty	required
by 2	name of the user who created that image; used as an argument for the template U (will be checked for existence) except when it starts with either "&", "<", "[" or "{" — then it will be used as-it-is, e.g. wikilinks; other user name templates like {{Ut}}, {{Uw}}		empty	optional
category cat 3	name of a category (to be used instead of the standard category) may be specified completely "[[Category:xxxx]]" or just "xxxx" specify cat=- or cat= to suppress the standard categorization		empty	optional
type 4	file type specification ("SVG", "file"; for SVG files the default is "SVG") specify 4=- or 4= to display parameter 1 as plain text instead of a picture [clarification needed]		empty	optional
user u 5	user(s) who created that image. This information will be displayed as-it-is: It can be passed in linkable format as e.g. {{U|user}} or as plain text. When provided the parameters #2 and #6 are ignored and no existence check is performed.		empty	optional

topic t 7	it is possible to specify here the short code of the topic (of the new file) (see the template Igen/top for the defined short codes); it will be displayed instead of the type (e.g. vector image or file)		type	optional
