Anthropomorphic engravings

If anthropomorhic- hearafter referred to as apm- is an embodiment of an engraving and considered as a term, then how can an apm phantom on an entity be used as a measurable quantity or define something with so many variables to it's own definition (markedly- apm phantom) .
