According to Ute Wrocklage, who wrote her 1992 master's thesis on Neuengamme and published an essay on it in Detlef Hoffmann (ed.), Das Gedächtnis der Dinge (1997), 178-205, esp. note 32: Salmon was born on Nov. 3, 1917. She survived Auschwitz and Ravensbrück. Her title for the Neuengamme sculpture was French for "The Deportee."
