A lot of the images in this gallery are very similar. It seems like the purpose of galleries when there are a large number of images is to select a reasonable sampling for quality and diversity (including perhaps diversity of location). The category serves the function of being a place where all the images can be found.

I will wait a week or so and if there is no response to this discussion I plan to remove many of the images from this gallery and review the category for any images that might be appropriate to add into the gallery. --Davefoc (talk) 00:32, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Bald Eagle and Branta canadensis galleries, both with numerous and redundant images, are organized by subheadings. That may be helpful here as well. Walter Siegmund (talk) 04:29, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Other changes

[edit]

I made a few changes to the gallery already:

  • Put the translation table above the taxonavigation box. There is not a set rule for this but for consistency with the rest of the anseriforme pages I put the translation table on top.
  • Changed the taxobox to reference the Anser genus instead of the Chen genus. This makes it consistent with the rest of Wikimedia, Wikipedia, Wikispecies and the name of the organism. I retained the synonym reference.
  • Changed L. to Linnaeus. Linnaeus seems to be the most common standard around here. I just changed it for consistency.
  • Added small codes to the authority name. Again just for consistency.

If anybody disagrees with any of this please let me know.--Davefoc (talk) 00:32, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My reading of the Orchi, Slaunger, Rocket000 consensis follows.[1] Walter Siegmund (talk) 04:37, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  1. {{VN}} - makes sense to put what the organism is best know as at the top
  2. {{Taxonavigation}} - right in the middle
  3. {{Synonyms}} - should be between the VNs and the taxonavigation templates
  4. {{Species}}, {{Genera}}, or {{Taxa}} - kinda like the continuation of {{taxonavigation}} (if there's more than one system used, these can be multiple of these in between each {{taxonavigation}}.
  5. {{Ws}} and other link templates ({{ITIS}}, {{WRMS}}, etc.)
