Quito Astronomical Observatory

The Quito Astronomical Observatory is located in Parque La Alameda and was founded in 1873. In 1963, The Government of Ecuador transferred title of the Observatory to the National Polytechnic School.


The Observatory is the National Observatory of Ecuador and is located 12 minutes south of the Equator in the Historic Center of Quito

An area that stretches over 790 acres with 130 monumental buildings, over 5,000 smaller properties and numerous 500 year old Churches and Convents. The Historic Center of Quito is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was constructed on what was once a 16th century Inca city at an altitude of 2,850 Metres above sea level in the Andes Mountains near the Equator in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
