Genres without examples

[edit]

6045 items. Most of these genres are not nearly as popular as many not yet in Wikidata and probably many of them aren't genres. A way to reasonably filter many out would be useful.

[edit]
  1. Having the label always link to the Wikidata item but currently it links to the Commons category if that is specified in "Multilingual links" of the WD item (note: not when only set in the Commons category prop) but Template:Wikidata list only explains how to "render links not in the local Wikipedia" and not how the label can be made to always link to the Wikidata item.
  2. Linking the subgenre of-genres to their commons category pages (instead of either the Wikidata item or a WMC gallery) – it is unclear how one could retrieve the commons category value of the property and it may not yet be possible.
  3. The Commons category property (d:Property:P373) is used for a link to the Commons category but it prepends it with Commons: causing it to be a redlink – how to add links to the Commons category there / prevent it from adding "Commons:" to the wikilink? (The current way it shows categories is just a workaround and also often doesn't work.)
  4. Displaying multiple audio files if multiple are set on the Wikidata item.
  5. The negative years of 'mantra' was changed to a positive year value.
  6. Showing the titles of the files or their captions (mainly to show artist name and track and maybe some details like year).
  7. Each item could have some data on "Contemporary aliveness" in regards to how active this genre is in terms of traction, innovation, community, cultural impact, trend of the number of releases, still novel subgenres, etc. There could also be some statistics directly included – discogs already shows statistics of releases per decade.
  8. A new property in Wikidata for influenced genres would be useful and already exists on MusicBrainz (example). It could also be "Derivative forms". Template:Infobox music genre has the parameters stylistic_origins, cultural_origins, derivatives but only the former are captured here (only partially).
Unimportant
  1. Making the query return an internal link instead of an URL to the WP article and also displaying the Wikipedia article link of the language of the Commons user if the article exist in that WP. Maybe the first 2 sentences or so could be fetched from the WP article/section or the entire section/lead be put into a collapsed box (page previews for WP articles doesn't work here).
