WLM 2017

[edit]

@JeanFred: It looks like the following changes need to be made (countries that withdrew): -aw, -lb, -mx, -ng. Thanks! Effeietsanders (talk) 09:46, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done − thanks for letting me know :).
(Technically, it probably does not matter since these countries would not have upload, and countries only get considered by the tool if there uploads in the country category).
Jean-Fred (talk) 09:55, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It shouldn't, but people of course /do/ upload, despite not participating :) That is why I noticed ;) Thanks! Effeietsanders (talk) 12:25, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WLUS India

[edit]

@Jean-Frédéric: Could please configure this tool to harvest the stats of Commons:Wiki Loves Uniformed services (India), that happened for the first time this year. The category is Category:Images from Wiki Loves Uniformed services (India). Please ping me if you need any information or data. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 15:52, 4 October 2017 (UTC) @Jean-Frédéric: Reminder ping. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 05:27, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Krishna Chaitanya Velaga: , sorry for the delay.
I’m afraid that it is not possible. As of now, for several reasons, the tool is highly constrained in what it works on − basically just Wiki Loves Earth and Monuments. Adding WLA was already a stretch. I have started work to make it more general but it will not be ready any time soon.
Sorry :-(
Jean-Fred (talk) 07:19, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jean-Frédéric: Hi Jean, no issues. Can you suggest me any similar tool or ways to track similar stats for this contest? I just want to know; contributions by users, along with their registration dates.--Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 10:13, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Jean-Frédéric: , did you have some time to make this tool more general? Alternatively, is there a documentation somewhere on how to install another instance with a different selection of contests? -Sylvain Boissel WMFr (talk) 14:03, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(Somewhat belatedly) There is documentation at wikitech:Tool:Wikiloves. Jean-Fred (talk) 13:48, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Wiki Love Culture

[edit]

Hello, I'm adding Wiki Love Culture or Wiki Cinta Budaya. Could someone please take a look. Our competition start 01-30 September 2018, and Indonesia is +UTC 7 Beeyan (talk) 05:37, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jean-Frédéric: could you help me take a look my edit? Beeyan (talk) 04:34, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Eswatini

[edit]

Hello, Swaziland was renamed in Eswatini in 2018. And the WLA 2020 category was renamed today... So, we have now categories with the old name and others with the new one (see Category:Wiki Loves Africa in Eswatini). Is it possible to use the two names? GuillaumeG (talk) 19:25, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The tool still uses Swaziland and has not switched to Eswatini a year later :( Anthere (talk)
@GuillaumeG and Anthere: Sorry, only seeing this report now. Filed it as phab:T309562.
Here would be the rough plan:
  • in Module:WL data, replace the mapping sz → Swaziland to sz → Eswatini → that way, the tool would expect files in “Images from X 20YZ in Eswatini”.
  • in the code, override for WLA 2015-2017 to look for Images in Swaziland.
If that sounds good, I’ll get to it soonish.
Jean-Fred (talk) 20:44, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I doubled checked. WLA started in 2014... so from 2014 -> 2017 : Swaziland. WLA did not take place in 2018. From 2019, this is Eswatini indeed. Anthere (talk) 10:38, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wales' code not working?

[edit]

I've edited the Wales code here but, doesn't seem to generate the stats. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 13:06, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I now see that the 'the data is updated once a day'! Thanks! Llywelyn2000 (talk) 13:17, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This link still not working. Can someone fix gb-wal Wales please. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 13:25, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Your link has an "I" before Wales. [1] works. --GPSLeo (talk) 13:42, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WL Folklore

[edit]

As you will probably already be aware, Wiki Loves Folklore is taking place right now.

It would be really good to centralize basic general statistics/metrics for this on the Wiki Loves Competition Tools.

Could someone who knows Lua and has the appropriate access please add Wiki Loves Folklore on the relevant Commons module? Thanks! --ToniSant (talk) 09:45, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging @Jean-Frédéric just in case. It would be great if you could give your input on this as it would benefit a relatively large number of Wikimedians in emerging areas of the Wikimedia Movement map. Thanks! ToniSant (talk) 20:49, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure how to add this contest. All other contests are country based and as such added to this module. Wiki Loves Folklore is not country based and a global contest. If we add this contest, we need to indicate somehow that the contest is global and not country specific. In the module the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes are used, but reading the article I do not see a code for the full Earth/all countries. Therefore I propose to use the code global for situations like this. I implemented this in this module. Romaine (talk) 19:06, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not-countries based contests are not supported by this tool, as hinted in wikitech:Tool:Wikiloves#Scope.
That said, Wiki Loves Folklore does appear to be country-based, per Category:Images from Wiki Loves Folklore 2020 by country, and would thus be in scope of the tool.
Adding a new scope however requires code changes, not only configuration changes − see eg phab:T182956 & the associated commit for an idea.
Please file a Phab task for this. What would help me would be to provide:
  • a link to a logo (if applicable)
  • the relevant color scheme to use (if applicable)
Thanks! Jean-Fred (talk) 15:39, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks,Jean-Fred! I've opened phab:T313588 as you suggested. I've also included a link to the competition logo there. Happy to provide more input, if necessary, mindful that my coding skills are rather limited, as I just pointed out in an email to Romaine earlier today. Thanks again! -- ToniSant (talk) 11:18, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Folklore 2023 is about to start on February 1. I'm not sure whether phab:T313588 was resolved. I know some work has taken place on it but I don't think it has been fully resolved, and it also looks like WLF 2023 will need to be added to take in stats for this year too. Thanks! --ToniSant (talk) 14:49, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Issue with the data of the WLE United Arab Emirates 2021 and 2022

[edit]

@Jean-Frédéric and Romaine: There are no statestic for United Arab Emirates the same us in the last year, maybe someone can help to fix this? I have open a task on fabricator but with out any results until now. thank you in advance Reda Kerbouche (talk) 07:04, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the ping.
As explained in phab:T304327, the tool expects category names to be consistent − so far all UAE categories were names Images_from_Wiki_Loves_<topic>_<year>_in_the_United_Arab_Emirates (note the the).
I added an exception in the code for WLE 2021 and 2021, but overall it would be nice if category names would be consistent across years and competitions.
Jean-Fred (talk) 18:52, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
At some point in time I will change it everywhere so the the is added everywhere. Romaine (talk) 10:38, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wickedly and wonderfully wild Wales, but not working

[edit]

Hi, wacky Wikipedians! Can someone please tell me why wonderful Wales isn't on the chart? Many thanks, Wordly Witty Wobin aka Llywelyn2000 (talk) 20:29, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Changed gb-wls to gb-wal for WLE 2022. It should hopefully solve the problem. /Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 09:50, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That is problematic because the official code for Wales is GB-WLS, see: en:ISO 3166-2:GB. Romaine (talk) 10:37, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wales = ["gb-wls"]

[edit]

N.B. Cymru / Wales = ["gb-wls"] NOT ["gb-wal"]. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 14:31, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WL Folklore 2024

[edit]

Wiki Loves Folklore 2024 starts today. I'm not sure what needs to be done to capture statistics for it through the WL data tool. Thanks! -- ToniSant (talk) 09:19, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I added all participating countries. I guess it should work tomorrow. Z thomas 10:18, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's great! Thank you very much@Z thomas. -- ToniSant (talk) 10:47, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jean-Frédéric @Romaine can you have a look at the statistics for WLF? It hasn't been updated for some days.
Doesn't it work because of my change some days ago? Z thomas 11:48, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, @Z thomas: it looks like that change broke it. :-) Unless @Jean-Frédéric or @Romaine know otherwise, of course. Perhaps it's because you've included far more countries than are actually taking part in WLF too, so the code is possibly looking for Commons categories that don't exist and hanging. Can you revert please? Thanks! -- ToniSant (talk) 10:31, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping. Looking at the changes, i don’t see anything wrong. The tool is also fairly forgiving, it should not trip on an empty category.
I checked the logs, there have been 4 successful updates:
Saved folklore2024: 6sec, 9 countries, 129 uploads
Saved folklore2024: 4sec, 16 countries, 512 uploads
Saved folklore2024: 4sec, 19 countries, 646 uploads
Saved folklore2024: 5sec, 19 countries, 1051 uploads
I also enabled a crontab so that data for Wiki Loves Folklore 2024 gets updated every 30mn, instead of once a day. Jean-Fred (talk) 14:00, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Jean-Fred! -- ToniSant (talk) 16:18, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I restored Z_thomas’s changes, and got `Invalid event: folklore2024`. Looking. Jean-Fred (talk) 20:42, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, fixed. Latest run is Saved folklore2024: 8sec, 74 countries, 3029 uploads Jean-Fred (talk) 08:59, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jean-Frédéric Thanks for fixing is?
I'm sorry. Was it my fault? What did I do wrong? Too much spacer? Z thomas 06:59, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
