Edit request

[edit]

Editprotected This interface message is used in the old upload form. Following the discussion at file naming, please add the following lines to the text:

Please choose another filename, unless you are uploading a technically improved version of the same file.
Don't overwrite an image with a different one of the same topic (see file naming).

Thanks. -- User:Docu at 12:56, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since a user might get this message accidentally, it should contain a link to (or even better: a thumbnail of) the image that would be overwritten, shouldn't it? (I am somewhat astonished that it doesn't. I believe it did once?) Lupo 13:21, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe this explains why files get overwritten (or is it just because accounts are authorized to re-upload earlier?), anyways, how about:
100px|thumb|existing file
A file with this name already exists; please check the existing file if you are not sure whether you want to change it. Please choose another filename, unless you are uploading a technically improved version of the same file.
Don't overwrite an image with a different one of the same topic (see file naming).

✓ Done, with some little formatting tweaks to keep the thumbnail within the red-bordered box. Lupo 07:48, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for tweaking it. It looks good. The problem with protected edit requests is that one isn't really sure how it will look unless the edit is made. BTW I made a similar request for the new form. -- User:Docu at 13:26, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
