It is now possible to move category pages directly. However, if this message is not configured properly, a standard redirect is placed on the old category page. Please create this message with the content {{category redirect|$1}}, optionally with a reason argument explaining that the category page was moved. --Ricordisamoa 11:10, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

Name of target-category without the "Category:" prefix is required to use this template. But when moving the Category: prefix is added automatically to $1. --Steinsplitter (talk) 11:16, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

This is a bad hack imho. subst: wold be optimal. Is there a way to add {{category redirect|{{subst:PAGENAME:$1}}}} to the mw page without substing it? --Steinsplitter (talk) 09:09, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Of course there is (another ugly hack IMO :( ). Save this page with {{category redirect|{{subst:<a non-existent template>:$1}}}}. And then after saving this page, create the template. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 11:20, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

A different approach would be to fix {{Category redirect}} so that it strips off the unneeded "Category:" prefix. This is what was done on enwiki, for example. --R'n'B (talk) 14:49, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
