English: Johann August Sutter (February 23, 1803, Kandern, Germany – June 18, 1880, Washington, D.C.), known also as General Sutter or John Augustus Sutter, was a Californian famous for his association with the California Gold Rush and for establishing Sutter's Fort in an area that would later become the capital of California, Sacramento.
