Israelitischer Tempel Poolstraße

Deutsch: Der Israelitische Tempel in der Poolstraße 12-13 in der Hamburger Neustadt wurde 1842 - 1844 nach Plänen von Johann Hinrich Klees-Wülbern erbaut. Er ersetzte den provisorischen, zu klein gewordenen Israelitischen Tempel in der Ersten Brunnenstraße / Alter Steinweg, und wurde seinerseits 1931 durch den neuen Tempel in der Oberstraße in Rotherbaum ersetzt. Die Mietshäuser dienten der Finanzierung der Synagoge. 1944 wurde das Gebäude durch einen Bombentreffer zerstört. Heute ist in der Ruine eine Autowerkstatt untergebracht.

English: The Israelitischer Tempel at Poolstrasse 12-13 in Hamburg's New City district was built for the city's Reformed congregation between 1842 and 1844 following plans by Johann Hinrich Klees-Wülbern. It replaced the provisional Israelitischer Tempel at the corner of Erste Brunnenstrasse and Alter Steinweg when it became too small, and was in turn replaced in 1931 by the new temple at Oberstrasse in the nearby Hamburg district of Rotherbaum. Rents from the apartment buildings in the courtyard of the Israelitischer Tempel at Poolstrasse served both to finance the temple and to block the view of it from Poolstrasse. It was severely damaged by the aerial bombardment of Hamburg in 1944.
