English: Guia is a village within the Freguesias Albufeira, Algarve, Portugal.
The first settlement established here was by the Romans. During the Moorish occupation of the Algarve the settlement was known as Alfontes which derives from Beyond the Fountain
The origins of Guia village are difficult to conclude, but custom says that the location of the Nossa Senhora da Guia Chapel, is the place where apparitions of the Virgin are recalled. Nowadays, Guia is a Portuguese gastronomic reference with its claim to be the Chicken capital of Portugal, famous for its “Frango à Guia" (Chicken Piri-Piri), a hot and spice grilled chicken dish.- NOTE: Guia may refer to more places with that name.
