How are these bowls "penannular"?

[edit]

The word penannular means "almost ring-shaped". This is an apt word to describe the brooches found in the St Ninian's Isle Treasure. However, the bowls are, well, bowls, with edges that form complete rings. These are not penannular in shape.

Could someone please explain where the word "penannular" came from in the description of these bowls? This seems like a mistake.
