Kashmir
The part of Kashmir is not showing as part of India. It should be depicted correctly. I am uploading one with the changes. --Ashwinikalantri (talk) 18:57, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- The parts of Kashmir in Pakistan are not part of India. The dotted borders show that there is a claim. The dark-grey shows, that these parts are de-facto Pakistan (in case of Aksai Chin China) the same way the yellow color shows that Jammu and Kashmir is de-facto India. The only other neutral way to show the region would be to show all parts of Kashmir in light-grey. Uwe Dedering (talk) 16:30, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
The disputed land infact belongs to India, and is controlled by Pakistan/ China. It needs to be specially depicted by a separate shade of grey. Kindly undo this change.--Ashwinikalantri (talk) 17:28, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- We don't have more shades of grey. This map follows the rules of all maps in Category:Location maps (2008 standard). This is why the parts of Pakistan and India are shown with the dotted borders. And again: The land is disputed, it does not belong to India. Wikipedia has to be neutral and repeating your opinion (the Indian point of view) does not help. Uwe Dedering (talk) 19:33, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- This is exactly what I am trying to say. The map should be from a neutral point of view. The disputed land is to be shown in a different shade. The Indian point of view would be removing the dotted line and making it the same shade as India! It would be great if you could change it.
If you would browse Category:Location maps (2008 standard), you will find this map - --Ashwinikalantri (talk) 23:00, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- There are three options:
- All of Kashmir (including Jammu and Kashmir) in light yellow. (This would be the maximum Indian position.)
- Jammu and Kashmir in light yellow, the rest in light grey. (says Jammu and Kashmir is part of India and only the rest is disputed.) This denies the claim Pakistan has on Jammu and Kashmir, and it does not matter, how strong or weak the claim is, we can't determine that..
- Jammu and Kashmir in light yellow, the rest in dark grey. (Neutral and refecting the current position.)
- All of Kashmir (including Jammu and Kashmir) in light grey. (neutral, but not reflecting the current situation.)
- All of Kashmir (including Jammu and Kashmir) in dark grey. (This would be the maximum Pakistan position.)
- The Pakistan map should be the same (colors "reversed"). Also all admin1-location maps. This map should be changed. Uwe Dedering (talk) 12:38, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- No2 is the most appropriate. It shows the part controlled by India as part of India and the rest as disputed. The dashed line shows the pakistan's claim.--Ashwinikalantri (talk) 19:17, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- But the part controlled by India is disputed, because Pakistan has a claim, and the rest is controlled by Pakistan and China. It does not help you, repeating your opinion again and again... Uwe Dedering (talk) 17:11, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
- No2 is the most appropriate. It shows the part controlled by India as part of India and the rest as disputed. The dashed line shows the pakistan's claim.--Ashwinikalantri (talk) 19:17, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
The part of Kashmir shown incorrectly and it does not belong to either Pakistan or China. India is largest and oldest democracy in the world. Non-Indian not respecting Indian boundary as shown by Govt Of India goes against spirit of Wikipedia. Change in the Map
- There is no need to display the water bodies in the map. They create confusion with the state boundaries when used in a smaller size. A location map is for denoting location on a map, not the relief.
- The disputed area needs to be show India's claim over it. --AshwiniKalantri (talk) 20:34, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- This map is for placing little red dots on it, to indicate the relative location of cities etc. which are found in areas actually currently under the control of the government of India -- not to detail the whole long history of over 60 years of India-Pakistan and India-China wars and various territorial claims connected thereunto.... AnonMoos (talk) 15:47, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- No, it is what the Indian government Officially claims is India. The disputed is Pakistan occupied Kashmir (Officially Indian) and not Pakistani Kashmir. AshwiniKalantri (talk) 08:05, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- The indian government website shows this - [1] AshwiniKalantri (talk) 08:05, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Why does map of India showing POK and some other part grabbed by china as not a part of Kashmir?
This topic is related to the map of Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir (J & K) which are distorted in many wikimedia maps. It is distorted in the following ways:
- The Aksai Chin (North East) region of J & K state is shown as territory of China and the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) North West region of the state is shown as territory of Pakistan.
- I am not aware, if these areas are really part of those countries and not belongs to India and I would look for citations, if it is really unanimously agreed between Government of Republic of India and neighboring countries along with the United Nations that really those areas are not Indian Territories.
- If we have citation for the same, then it justifies using the current map but with proper citation mentioned there against the map, if in case we don't have proper citation then it should be shown as territory of India or as disputed area with a clearly indicative color rather than dotted or dashed lines. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bharat1 (talk • contribs) 8. - Of course there is no agreement between India and Pakistan/China that the not-yellow parts of J&K do not belong to India (just have a look at the J&K article at Wikipedia). No one is forced to use this map, there are different versions available. NNW 15:35, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Upload more compact version of India location map
I simplified layering for India location map (no nested layers inside groups like there is now) and merged all international provinces/subdivisions in the other countries layer into a single path and reduced the document size to ~1.3 MB. I can't upload these changes currently so is it possible an administrator can briefly reduce protection to semi-protected or extended-protected (please ping me when u respond so I know the timespan u will do so) so that I can update it? I have made no changes to the actual territory under consideration, least of all any disputed territory.all this was was reorganizing. 4. Misrepresentation of India's map
Incidentally, this is not the first time when the Indian map has been distorted. More than 6 months ago, BBC World Service stirred controversy when a graphic on its broadcast 'US Election 2020: What do countries around the world want from Joe Biden' depicted India without Jammu and Kashmir. This elicited a strong response from Labour Party MP Virendra Sharma who termed the action as "deeply insulting" in a letter addressed to BBC Director-General Tim Davie. Asserting that J&K is an integral part of India, he called upon the BBC to not only withdraw the graphic but also demanded action to ensure that this doesn't repeat again.
Subsequently, the BBC apologised and updated the map of India reflecting the boundaries of J&K. Similarly, Twitter had to apologise for showing a part of J&K as Chinese territory. This controversy came to the fore on October 18, 2020, when national security analyst Nitin Gokhale noticed that his location (near Leh airport) was displaying 'Jammu and Kashmir, the People's Republic of China' on Twitter.
Moreover, the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 expressed strong displeasure over the geotagging issue and asked Twitter to submit a written apology and an affidavit. The latest flashpoint comes even as Twitter has been sued in the Delhi High Court over purported non-compliance with the Centre's new IT rules. Recently, the microblogging platform lost its "safe harbour" immunity in India for its failure to comply with the same.
This means that the platform's top executives may face criminal liability under the Indian Penal Code for "unlawful" and "inflammatory" content posted by any user. https://www.republicworld.com/technology-news/social-media-news/twitter-provokes-again-by-showing-j-and-k-and-ladakh-out-of-indias-map-netizens-seek-action.html

First of all this map is false and if you don't want to include disputed territory in map but it should be light yellow shaded not grey.
How wikipedia is biased?? In China current used map, they used light shaded as disputed territory. Whereas in Indian map they show grey as a disputed territory.
And if chnged Indian current map to light yellow disputed map they will recharge it as Wikipedia policy but it doesn't apply to Chinese map. DSP2092 (talk) 12:50, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
