The train appears to be stationary (and photographic processes at the time required that). Therefore the train is probably standing at the temporary Dolgelly terminus station of the Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast Railway. This was indeed at Frondirion, about half a mile west of the later "joint" Dolgelly station. This was in use from 21 June 1869 until 1 August 1869 only, and the photograph may tentatively be dated to that short time space.

The A&WCR branch line came from BArmouth. The A&WCR had joined with other local companies to form the Cambrian Railways by this date. The later station was operated jointly with the Bala and Dolgelly Railway, affiliated to the Great Western Railway.

All these place name spellings are the anglicised versions as used at the time.

Excellent photograph by the way. Afterbrunel (talk) 11:06, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
