File rename request

[edit]

Swiãtopôłk (talk · contribs) has requested several times that this flag be renamed to Flag of Leeward Islands (1952-1958), stating:

The years are wrong, it is a version introduced only after the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952 and was used until the creation of West Indies Federation in 1958. [1] The difference is in the crown, in Elizabeth's time the previously used Tudor crown was changed to the St. Edward's Crown shown here.

However this source seems to be about the en:heraldic achievement of the Leeward Islands and not the flag. I don't know if Swiãtopôłk has other sources. I found plenty of references to the Leeward Islands' badge in publications prior to 1952, but none to the flag itself or the history of the creation of independent flags for British territories, flags of the governor vs. the territory itself, etc.

I'm not an expert on these Empire flags, and as I appreciate Swiãtopôłk's input I am starting a discussion to reach a consensus. Pinging @Tcfc2349: for input and sources. Thanks. — ʷiḳỉℳẚṅ₫¡₳ (talk) 21:06, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kaliforniyka (talk · contribs) I'll explain the context, this flag has the UK coat of arms on it. Before 1952 the coat of arms had the Tudor Crown, but Queen Elizabeth II changed it to w:St Edward's Crown. This version shows the coat of arms with the St Edward's Crown so I want to change the name and ask for the original version with the second crown with the years (1874-1952) to be created in the near future. Similarly with the other two colony insignia. As for the end date, this is a simple mistake, the colony territory was dissolved not in 1956 but in 1958, I guess the wrong year comes from this source [2], I haven't seen this date anywhere else.
Although it's good that the name change in this case was put on hold, because the office of governor was abolished in 1959, after the colony. Unfortunately I don't have a solid source for this, but I think the end of the use of this flag was the same as the end of the office it represented.Swiãtopôłk (talk) 20:06, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@@Swiãtopôłk: Thank you for the clarification! I agree with you and will move this file as you suggested. Thank you! — ʷiḳỉℳẚṅ₫¡₳ (talk) 03:01, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
