Did I fill out the licensing information properly?

[edit]

The upload wizard seems not particularly helpful when it comes to derived works. Thus I was following the templates and instructions at:

Maybe User:Gestumblindi, User:PantheraLeo1359531, User:JimKillock or User:ZDF_Terra_X_Redaktion are able to have a look and help out?

The video mainly used the German original and added an english audio track following the Timed Text by User:JimKillock. I was not sure how to add the Timed Text as a source work because I believe technically the work was derrived from two other works (e.g. the original video AND the timed text). Curious to have some feedback. Renepick (talk) 22:19, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!
When I upload a derivative work, I either select "not my own work" at the wizard and write in all sources and authors, or add the two items after the upload, for licenses I also list all relevant.
As an example, I built a mausoleum here and inserted the horses from another free source and described the overall work so: File:Mausoleum mit Pferde 20221203.stl :)

That means you advise against using the AutVec Template? I thought that this might help to make the information semantically available. But as of now all solutions seem like plain natural language text which is not particularly machine readable. Also with respect to "own work" questions. In my unerstanding the derived work should be my own work and I am the author of the own work but I have to mentioned the two sources it is built upon. With respect to linking the license. I thought that this was not necessary to do explicitely on wikimedia commons as the source work was also hosted here. Now I am actually to some degree more confused than I was before -- Renepick (talk) 17:28, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think it does not matter too much what you state, so long as you state the original source as part of the derived work. If someone thinks it should be done differently, they can later. FWIW I stated some ZDF redubs as "own work" as this seemed to fit best - the translations were not endorsed by ZDF, and the voiceover was not supplied by them. It would be a misrepresentation to say that they are the original "creator" of my or your new work.
In your case, I would say the translation, the audio recording and the orginal video are contributary works. Mention them as best you can. JimKillock (talk) 19:59, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
