There was a car manufacturer named Garford Company in Elyria OH. It began producing components and chassis for other manufacturers in 1903, with Studebaker being a most important customer. Studebaker cars with Garford frames are known as "Studebaker-Garfords" althogh that never was an official brand name. Garford started building complete 30 and 40 HP four cylinder cars in 1908, but it seems that this venture violated contracts with Studebaker. So, they had to stop and reentering the field after these contracts were terminated. Manufacturing restarted in 1910 for model year 1911. In 1909, production of trucks started. In 1913, Garford was bought by Willys-Overland, truck operation not being part of the deal. It is likely that this is either a Garford truck or a converted ed Garford automobile, in this case either a 1908 Model A 30 HP, Model B 40 HP, or 1911 Model G-7 40 HP. Considering the wheelbase of this truck it is more likely that it a 40 HP. Fender line resembles that of a contemporary Garford - seems that the truck in trouble was on a promotional tour, or at least escorted one.--Chief tin cloud (talk) 18:12, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
