English: "On Wednesday 28 September 2011, Julia Gillard, the prime minister of Australia, came to Melbourne to have lunch in celebration of her 50th birthday, at the Park Hyatt hotel.
It's Gillard, and her government, who continues to refuse to lift the ban on same-sex marriage in this country, to her total shame. Equal Love, the organiser of the nation-wide campaign for the legalisation of equal marriage rights, decided that it would be appropriate for Gillard's lunch to be spoilt, interrupted, by having a protest outside of the hotel. By us protesting outside of the Park Hyatt, Gillard couldn't enter the building via the front entrance, but instead had to sneak in through the back. During this equal marriage protest, a number of gay rights activists spoke about how disgustingly homophobic the Labor government is, and how they would continue to fight until the state-sanction homophobia was eradicated from Australian law. This video is of an SDA unionist speaking at the protest, with him condemning Gillard for her refusal to change the law, him condemning SDA president Joe de Bruyn for his blatant homophobia, and him demanding that Labor vote in favour of marriage equality." |
