| Description |
English: Edinburgh's new Town streets. This is the east end of York Place, the last stop on the Edinburgh Trams system. It's at this set of points that the line is reduced from two tracks to one, which then feeds into the platform of the York Place stop. The tram poles are obscuring the platform edge, but the platform itself is on the right (surrounded by the railings). Arriving trams come along the track on the left, while departing ones are fed onto the one on the right. At this stage, while the line had still not opened, testing along the full route was underway. The signal attached to the pole is for arriving trams and is set to 'stop', presumably because, as can be seen, the points are set for departure. Although why they are set that way when there is no tram at the stop is a mystery. On the next pole along is another signal, although it's not showing any aspect at all - this may be because the lights for the pedestrian crossing are out of order (perhaps still to be wired?), and the nominal purpose of the signal is to stop trams when the crossing is in use. The set of points and small stub of track on the right has seemingly been included in case the system is ever extended as per the original plans, which had the line continuing on up Leith Walk. On the left, a Lothian Buses bus is leaving with a route 44 service to Tranent. |
