Description |
English: Yachts the property of Gentlemen belonging to the Yacht Clubs preparing to start off Greenwich College River Thames A lithograph inscribed 'Painted & Drawn on Stone by J. Rogers Senr' showing eight cutter-rigged yachts manoeuvring off Greenwich Hospital. Two fly flags showing a white cross on a blue ground, two fly a white pennant, one flies a plain blue flag, one a St George's cross and one a red pennant. A paddle steamer appears in the right background and two men in a wherry in the right foreground. The almost axial view of the Hospital is largely concealed by the sails but is nonsensical, the domes being represented more as drums with conical roofs. It is signed by the artist in the plate. |
