“Waterloo 10 Mo. 14 1830
Friend Richard
As I think I can call thee so, in deed and in truth : – Thou hast manifested thy friend ship towards me in many instances of which I hope I may ever retain a greatfull remembrance – [once?]. In settleing with Quinby & Kendig I find but little my due, as there was quite a number of cradle scythes remaind unsold. I am repairing my works this fall which will cost me a good deal & I thought on the whole I could perhaps do better by thee another season to take what was due on my a/c. The presure of my affairs sometimes [hangs?] very heavy upon me, and I feel almost ready to sink under it but I feel in hopes I may get along with it all without any serious difficulty. If I pay here at present I cannot pay there, and if I dont pay there I cannot anywhere, as I should have to stop business I felt it my duty to write what I have, that thee might know my mind and know how sincerely I am &c ever affectionate friend Willard Hendrick”
