Title: The future of East African Regional and Thematic Hub (EARTH)
Speaker: Antoni Mtavangu, Winnie Kabintie
Abstract: This session will highlight the key achievement and learnings from the EARTH hub research and Planning phase, and open the discussion on the possible future of hubs in the movement based on the results of the concluded hub research.

Hubs is one of the key initiatives within the movement when it comes to discussion the future of collaboration amongst Wikimedia Affiliates, User groups and all other forms of organizational entities within the movement. East African Regional and Thematic Hub (EARTH) being an initiative that seeks to deepen the collaboration between Wiki communities from at least 11 countries (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Botswana and Zambia), has been engaged in conducting a detailed research to identify the needs and pressing issues from these communities in relation to how a hub can be a solution to those challenges/problems.

This session will be an opportunity for the Wikimania audience to get to know the East African region context on hubs as the movement progresses to construct the Moment Charter. This will be an opportunity for EARTH hub team to interact with the audience and share the insights learned from the concluded Research and Planning Phase, and the possible future for the piloting/implementation of the hub itself.
