New Orleans, 1907. The yard and playground of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children home on North Peters Street near Jourdan Road. The Times-Democrat used several photographs of the facility in a pictorial titled "Scenes at the Waifs' Home of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children." Note: This was the home for "white waifs" in the era of racial segregation; a seperate home for "colored waifs" was located in the Navarre/Mid-City area. |
