Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Wester Gartshore Bing Viewed from Pit Road Waterside.

This pit opened in 1872 and closed in 1950 by the NCB. It was owned by the Cadzow Coal Co. before nationalisation in 1948. The average workforce was 299 with a peak manpower of 318 - presumably in its peak production year in 1947. The two shafts were both 274m deep. Output in 1948 was 203 tons per day which totalled 54,810 tons for that year.

The huge bing is indicative that at least some of the seems worked were overlaid by blaze which has to be removed as well as the coal below it.
