English: Water pollution an international problem. Rivers and seas are becoming more and more polluted as they carry along detergents, chemical products and refuse of all kinds. Abandoned cars are left to rust on sea fronts and roadsides, thus marring the beauty of the countryside. In the face of this growing peril, a number of countries in the world launched, five years ago, an International Hydrological Decade to ensure a continuing supply of pure water for man and UNESCO has prepared a report on the first results which have been obtained.
