English: Relief shown by contours and spot heights on some sheets. Depths shown by contours and soundings on some sheets. Title from "Black lettering" sheet. Each sheet is used as a single-color negative-film separation overlay in the production of the final positive multi-color paper map sheet. Each sheet has adhesive label affixed on recto indicating the color separation represented by the sheet. Some sheets have additional adhesive label: U.S.G.S. Exhibit 1879-1979. Each sheet a punch hole along each of the 4 edges to enable exact registration when sheets are used as overlays. Some sheets (especially "Black lettering" sheet) include notes.
