English: Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
Overview of the situation on Walcheren five months after the end of World War II. The island has been flooded for a large part after the attack on the dikes by the British air force in October 1944. A boat trip through the flooded area shows the damage done. With a.o. militairy amphibious vehicles, "dukw's", the connections are maintained. Work is done to close the holes in the dikes. SHOTS: -tanks that have been shot to pieces; -Westkapelle (completely destroyed); -flooded lands and a street in a suburb of Middelburg; -amphibious vehicles on the Markt and in the streets of Middelburg; -horse and carriage in a flooded street; -the hole in the dike is closed by sinking down caissons filled with concrete, the terrain is raised with sand and the last remaining slot is closed.

Overzicht van de situatie op Walcheren vijf maanden na het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Het eiland staat grotendeels nog onder water na de aanval op de dijken door de Britse luchtmacht in oktober 1944. Een vaartocht over het ondergelopen gebied laat de aangerichte schade zien. Met oa militaire amfibievoertuigen "dukw's" worden de verbindingen onderhouden. Er wordt gewerkt aan het dichten van de gaten in de dijken. SHOTS: -kapotgeschoten tanks; -Westkapelle (volledig verwoest); -ondergelopen landerijen en straat in buitenwijk Middelburg; -amfibievoertuigen op de Markt en in de straten van Middelburg; -paard-en-wagen in ondergelopen straat; -het gat in de dijk wordt gedicht met het afzinken van met beton gevulde caissons, het opspuiten van zand en het dichtgooien met stenen van de laatst overblijvende sleuf. |
